What did the Vatican do to the priest who sexually molested deaf boys in Wisconsin?
I have often heard in the news about sexual abuses allegedly done by priests. There are some cases where the allegations were not proven and some in which where I haven't read any outcome of the case. Recently, another one surfaced where a certain Wisconsin priest is said to have molested deaf boys. What was Vatican's reaction and action concerning this?

It is a very sad thing that happened to these boys. Church of all places should be a sanctuary and safe place for people. However, these sick people seek positions in places that are thought to be safe to have access to small children.
According to the New York Times article that I read about this case, the boys had just recently learned about March of this year that in 1996 Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (who is now Pope Benedict XVI), received letters about this happening with Father Murphy. Archbishop Rembert G. Weakland from Milwaukee reached out to him for what he called "a healing response from the Church". The Vatican equivocated the case and Father Murphy was still considered a priest when he died in 1998.

In another article it states that over 200 boys were affected by this guy. That many bishops reached out The Vatican, which did not defrock the priest and seemed to brush it under the rug.

Although I feel that people are allowed mistakes, child molestation is not a mistake. It's a sick, sick disease. They should have dealt with him. For these leaders within the church abusing their power, their day will come. It's a shame that they can't seek help once these thoughts enter their head and get help. Now things have changed some and children are heard more. I hope that any kid getting treated this way will have the courage to speak out.
