One of the most recognizable Hanukkah traditions gave the holiday its name as “The Festival of Lights.” The lighting of the nine-branched Menorah candle-stand is the highlight of the holiday. The festival last for eight days. Eight candles are the same size, while the larger candle in the middle is used to light one candle each day of the festival. Blessings are said during each evening candle lighting in remembrance of the Jewish victory commemoration.
The Dreidel game is also a fun tradition. Each side of the top has a symbol instructing the player's course of action in the game. Token gifts are often used for certain symbols.
Food is an important part of the holiday. Potato latkes are the preferred celebration food. They are fried in oil to remind eaters of the oil used to light the Jewish temples.
