First of all, let me just say that parrots make absolutely fantastic pets! Nothing is more rewarding than having a pet that can actually talk to you, as some parrots can. African Grey parrots, for example, have the mental capacity and emotional capabilities of a five year old child. They genuinely love you and can understand you, and respond in kind. (They are also the easiest to train because of this reason)
Now, on to your question. There are quite a few expenses that you’re going to incur when you first purchase a parrot. The largest expense, besides the price of the bird itself, is going to be the cage. Be sure to check that the cage is the right size and that the bars aren’t too far apart; don’t just buy the cheapest. Then you’re going to need extra perches, food, treats, and toys. Toys are essential because parrots are easily bored. Don’t forget that it’s a great idea to take your new feathered friend for a veterinary check up to make sure he’s healthy.
