What coins have be minted by the US treasury?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

According to the official US Department of Treasury website the following coins are minted.
--quote---

2009 Ultra high relief coin, America the beautiful program, D.C. & U.S. Territories,
Presidential $1 Coins, First Spouse Gold Coins, Native American $1 Coins, 2010 Lincoln One Cent Coin,
Circulating Coins, American Buffalo - 24K, American Eagles, Commemoratives .

The presidential $1 coins really fascinated me. Please have a look.

Today, the U.S. Treasury (...or rather the U.S. Mint) produces the American Silver Eagles, Gold Eagles and others. But in past times, they also produced many coins containing precious metals used for everyday things. These are generally referred to as 90% junk silver coins.

They include the following:

90% junk silver quarter (pre-1965)
90% junk silver dime (pre-1965)
Peace Silver Dollar (through 1933 I think)
90% junk silver half-dollar (pre-1965)

Coins like these are terrific for an emergency stash since they each one is just a small quantity of silver. They can be traded for many essential items like food.

See http://www.providentmetals.com/junk-silver.html

I'll just say - it's incredible to see how these coins' value today versus back then. What was $0.25 in 1964 is now worth nearly $6 - incredible!!
