Some classic American literature that is normally enjoyed by teenagers are: To Kill a Mocking Bird By Harper Lee, The Catcher in the Rye By J.D Salinger, 1984 By George Orwell, Animal Farm By George Orwell, Fahrenheit 451 By Ray Bradbury, The Chronicles of Narnia (series) By C.S Lewis, and many more. Some good sites to find more classic literature for teens is wannalearn.com and infosoup.org's teen’s booklist.
There are also some really great books that aren't considered "classic literature." It's important for kids to read a wide variety of books both old and new. Most of the classics are good reads but there are many other books that have kids can learn and grow from that aren't classics. Check out The Harry Potter series, books by Lois Duncan, and books by Rachel Cohn. These books are funny, entertaining, and intelligent; I would recommend them for any teen.
