What cell phone cables can be ripped apart to be made into cheap/easy 3.3v serial connectors?
A lot of hardware hacking, especially reprogramming routers or other embedded devices like Freeagent Dockstar, requires talking to the device via a 3.3v serial connection. I know of how to build out the circuit with MAX232, but it seems many cell phone data cables already have this in a nice package ready to be re-purposed. What cell phone cables have you folks tried with any luck? For example: I came **this close** to getting a Nokia DKU-9 to work but it couldn't sustain a high baud rate.

The clone cables usually have poor quality USB to serial chips with various problems. A clone of the Prolific PL2303 seems to be popular lately.
If you want something reliable, get a genuine FTDI TTL232R cable.
