What celebrity(s) have you unexpected run into? What was your impression of that meeting? Did it change what you thought of that person?

Part of my former career afforded me the occasional opportunity to meet various celebrities that were either based in, or visiting the Chicago area.

Some of the more interesting ones I've met were Oprah, varied news personalities, and the mayor of Chicago, Richard M. Daley three times. My career at that time afforded me the opportunity to be closer to him than his security detail for the duration of his visit. (Even more interesting, my mother met his father Richard J. Daley because of where she worked, and he would greet my mother every day by name.)

Once, I even saw George Lucas 10 feet from me near work, and I literally had to do a triple take and process what I was seeing because I didn't believe it was him at first. The movie setup where I was at should have been the clue - yes, that was really him. It was also interesting being able to freely talk tech with the crew there because we had authorization to pass the security barriers.

My current career brings me into contact with current celebrities as well, but the NDA won't let me say who yet. I see a lot of "recording artists" come through, and I've met several of them. The ones who actually remember me from the last time they saw me tend to stand out more. I've also run into the "who are you, peasant?" types as well.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

My brother is a celebrity, oddly enough. Through him, I've met Mark Hamil from Star Wars, Sally Struthers, Whoopi Goldberg, Cheech Marin and Clint Eastwood. There have been more over the years, but these are the ones I remember most. Believe it or not, they are just regular folks. With a lot of money, lol.

I once ran into Chuck Norris at the DFW Airport. I kind of was unsure if it was really him (as he's very short - surprising, really) although he was VERY cool.
"Oh man, I'm sorry," I said, still not realizing who I was talking to. I'd bumped into him while walking through the terminal and looking longingly into a bar.
"It's okay, I run into things all the time!" says Chuck Norris.
"Hey!" realizing who he was, "Nice to meet you" (shaking his hand) "I'm a big fan of Walker Texas Ranger!"
He just smiled said thanks and off he went.

It was only later when I got un-starstruck that I wish I had said, "What was it like learning from Bruce Lee?" or "Delta Force kicked ASS!!"

But no. I go to Walker Texas Ranger first.
I'm such a moron!

I was working in a health food store in 1996 in Memphis TN and Beck came in to buy something to eat. He came over to the counter where I was working and asked for a cookie sample that I was giving out. He ended up buying a package of them. He was really quiet, shy and tiny. I couldn't believe how small he was in person. He seemed very different from his stage persona. On stage he is so energetic and confident so I was really surprised at how shy he came across. He barely spoke and when he did he was so soft spoken that I could barely understand what he was saying. He didn't make a lot of eye contact with anyone there. It was kind of weird, but I thought he was nice.
