What causes Hemmoroids?
at the hospital today. :-(
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Hemorrhoids are when the veins of the rectum or anus become inflamed and swollen. Which....you're probably already aware of by now.
What causes it?
Several things.
1. Lettin' it all hang out. You should never sit on a toilet seat too long (as in for hours). Never leave the veins to dangle that long.
2. Pushing too hard. As a very funny friend of mine used to say in her gentlest Martha Stewart voice, "Ladies always make the poop conform to your chute, not the other way around." Don't rush the poop, or you could pop some hemorrhoids. Just say no to toilet strain.
3. Not enough fiber in the diet (although really, this goes back to Rule #2).
4. Technically, pelvic tumors can also cause the rrhoids, but this is rare.
5. Age. If the tissue supporting those veins starts to get weak (or was weak to start), hemorrhoids could pop out easily...which could lead to a chronic condistion.
6. Other causes: Heredity, bouts of diarrhea, laxative use, or pregnancy (although pregnant women are so constipated, I point to Rule #2 again).
Sorry to hear that you're feeling so unwell. Wishing you a very speedy recovery!
