Numerous factors can cause hair loss. For instance, hormonal problems may trigger hair loss. Therefore, hair loss or hairlessness, which is a widespread problem faced by both men as well as women, may take place if male or female hormones, acknowledged as androgens and estrogens, are out of balance. Particular infections can also trigger hair loss.

At the same time, hair loss is usual in men and women mainly as they grow older. And, male-pattern baldness is the most usual reason of hair loss in men. However, women may develop female-pattern baldness.

Moreover, there are various ways to prevent more hair loss. And, depending on your type of hair loss, various treatments as well as therapies are available. Medications may also help slow or prevent the progress of common baldness.

A certain amount of hair loss is normal on any given day. The average, healthy human head has approximately 100,000 hairs on it, and each day, a healthy scalp will shed around 100 hairs; this is just a natural part of a hair’s life cycle.

However, in some people, excessive hair loss may occur. This can be the result of the stress associated with an illness or a major surgery, or perhaps a hormonal problem. A thyroid that is either overactive or underactive may result in hair loss, as will androgens or estrogens (depending on whether you are a male or female) that are out of balance.

Certain medicines will cause hair loss. These medicines include blood thinners, medicines used to treat gout, high blood pressure or heart problem medications, birth control pills, antidepressants, and vitamin A.
Hair loss may also occur as the result of a disease, such as lupus or diabetes.

It depends on what the reason for your hair is, but there are ways of treating hair loss. If your hair loss is related to a medicine that you are taking, you doctor may be able to change the dosage or have you take something different. Also, you might be able to take minoxidil, which is more commonly known by its brand name Rogaine. This product is available without a prescription, and both men and women can use it.

Another medicine that is available with a prescription and is only for men is finasteride. It’s important to note, however, that it may take up to six months for these hair loss medications to begin working.
