What Castle of the world do you think is the most beautiful?

While castles in Europe seemed to have very developed fortifications directly surrounding the castle and would win in the "functional" category, Japanese castles don't appear to have quite the same level of function, but instead relied on the feudal maze that is the road system of Tokyo and other cities still followed today, that made it slow and difficult for invading armies to make way to the castle (and for taxi passengers of today to get virtually anywhere in Tokyo!) But where they lack in defense, they make up for in beauty (at least in my opinion). If I have to pick one, I'll go with Himeji Castle, though the style is quite similar in many castles of the period.

M$Gary's Tower of London is really another place that holds so much history that it's almost magical. To me, history is magic. I studied quite a bit of British history and fell in love with the Tudor Age. One castle that I find hopelessly romantic is Hever Castle where Anne Boleyn was raised. This castle is actually quite small on the scale of castles, but it does have a moat and the romantic history of Henry the Eighth and his first true love.

Now, you know I'm a weirdo and a native Californian. I grew up traveling all around that big state as a child and I was truly enchanted with the desert and its beauty and spent plenty of time in Death Valley. While there I visited a true Californian castle... Scotty's Castle. Now this isn't a European Castle by any stretch of the imagination, but the architecture and beauty still haunt me to this day. This is the castle of my childhood imagination when I think of a castle in California. I remember being awed by the beautiful tile work in the kitchen.

M$Let's take a look at the physical aspects of this gorgeous castle, first. The height is approximately 117 meters, 400 meters long and 350 meters wide. In order to protect the building from earthquakes, the foundation was made of copper. The Potala Palace has about 10,000 temples, 1000 rooms and 200,000 statues.
The Portala Palace is divided into two parts: the Red and White palace. The Red Palace is used primarily for religious reasons and the White Palace is where the politics were handled. The Red Palace has three halls: the Memorial, Scripture and Hall of Buddha. This area is also where the Dali Lamas tombs made of rich jewels and chapels are located. The White Palace is where the offices and living area is.
The Portala Palace was built during the Tubo Dynasty, in the seventh century, by King Songtsan Gambo. This was to immortalize his wedding to Nepal's and Tang's princesses.

M$But it's The White Tower, right in the middle of this huge complex (see map) that was the focal point:
"NO. 2 on Worlds Most Haunted Places The Tower of London, one of the most famous and well-preserved historical buildings in the world, may also be one of the most haunted. This is due, no doubt, to the scores of executions, murders and tortures that have taken place within its walls over the last 1,000 years. Dozens upon dozens of ghost sightings have been reported in and around the Tower. On one winter day in 1957 at 3 a.m., a guard was disturbed by something striking the top of his guardhouse. When he stepped outside to investigate, he saw a shapeless white figure on top of the tower. It was then realized that on that very same date, February 12, Lady Jane Grey was beheaded in 1554.
Perhaps the most well-known ghostly resident of the Tower is the spirit of Ann Boleyn, one of the wives of Henry VIII, who was also beheaded in the Tower in 1536. Her ghost has been spotted on many occasions, sometimes carrying her head, on Tower Green and in the Tower Chapel Royal.
Other ghosts of the Tower include those of Henry VI, Thomas a Becket and Sir Walter Raleigh. One of the most gruesome ghost stories connected with the Tower of London describes death of the Countess of Salisbury. According to one account, "the Countess was sentenced to death in 1541 following her alleged involvement in criminal activities (although it is now widely believed that she was probably innocent). After being sent struggling to the scaffold, she ran from the block and was pursued until she was hacked to death by the axe man." Her execution ceremony has been seen re-enacted by spirits on Tower Green. "

M$What skirmishes and battles did this castle survive?
Did you know that Walt took his inspiration for Snow White's castle from the great German castle of Neuschwanstein.
That is the point. Snow Whites castle is a fantasy, not covered in blood. The tower of London is a torture chamber; the castles in Europe were to protect the nobility from the people they were leaching off of.
Snow Whites castle is beautiful because it is a pure fantasy of a mystical magical building. The magic shop is in there.
To answer you question directly, Disney has had to fight off corporate raiders intent on breaking up Disneyland, and selling off the assets for what they can get.

Thanks for reminding me of this beautiful castle! This castle is also important to Japanese history and a famous battle took place for this fortress. (yeah... history buff).
After looking at videos of this place, I'd like to visit when the cherry trees are blooming! Simply stunning.
