This is a list of things you can do at home:

1. Making a paste of baking soda and water and spreading it over the bites.
2. Using calamine lotion or a topical anesthetic to help relieve the itch and pain.
3. Itching can also be relieved by using a one percent hydrocortisone cream.
4. Anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen will help with the swelling and pain.
5. The use of antihistamines is also a useful mosquito bite treatment because they will alleviate the itch and swelling.
6. Aloe vera gel is an effective all natural mosquito bite treatment. This compound reduces swelling and itching and soothes the affected area.
7. A mosquito bite treatment is also available in the form of commercial products specifically designed for this purpose.

I always use aloe vera for my mosquito bites as well as sunburn. I go fishing with my dad now and then and the mosquitos on the lake are terrible.

To prevent mosquito bites, I recommend using something with deet in it like Off! insect repellent spray.

1. CALAMINE LOTION. I generally prefer the use of Calamine lotion (such as Caladryl). But it doesn't take the itch out of the biggest bites!

2. BAND-AIDS. Generally, my remedy has been to put a Band-Aid on it. Seems silly, right? I find the sensation of a Band-Aid on the spot distracts me from the itch, and prevents me from scratching it, too.

3. ANTIPERSPIRANT. I recently read in 'Parenting' magazine that if you apply some antiperspirant (NOT deodorant - antiperspirant, check the label) to a mosquito bite right away, that it'll shrink down to almost nothing right away.

I have not tried any of these, but there are a couple of sites that have lists of what you can use.

Much of what makes an insect bite uncomfortable is tissue swelling, so treatments that improve the swelling may also improve symptoms. Two easy treatments include rubbing alcohol and local application of ice. Calamine lotion, which is drying, is generally used for treatment of poison ivy, and is messy and generally less effective.
