Condensed Milk could be substituted. Cooks and bakers found mixing one cup of instant powdered milk with one-third cup hot water, one-half cup sugar and one tablespoon of melted butter in a blender until smooth and refrigerating it until ready to use is one of the best substitute for condensed milk.
Another mixture could be a good substitute as well. By using three-fourth white sugar mixed with one-half cup water and one and one-eight cups dry powdered milk and bringing it to a boil and cook, stirring constantly until thickened about 20 minutes.
You can also use evaporated milk as substitute for condensed milk.
If you have a can of evaporated milk, you can make a good approximation of condensed milk. Combining a cup of evaporated milk with one and one-fourth cups of sugar and heating it until sugar is completely dissolved and you have your condensed milk ready to use.
But the best make-your-own condensed milk is by simmering any quantity of milk in a pan until it is being reduced by 60%, and adding sugar. To learn more about the substitutes for condensed milk, read: http://www.ochef.com/500.htm.
