What can be deduced about Poland in general from the story of Voytek the Soldier Bear?

Thats a pretty good story... what does it say about the Polish people in general? Hmmm I'm not sure that it says too much really. I think people of most countries would nurture and raise a bear in similar circumstances. Although these days it is likely that it would be shipped off to a zoo early on. It does speak for the openness of the Polish people, allowing a bear to roam free with their battalion, allowing it to be enlisted as a full soldier. Bureaucracy would often stand in the way of a move like that (which ironically is why it had to be done in the first place because of the British bureaucracy). To me it says a lot about bears, fearless and loyal, with some keen senses to allow it to detect that spy. It was a sad ending of the story for me that it ended with the bear being kept in a zoo, away from his friends/family he grew up with and fought with.
