What business started as a small one and had a huge success?
I was wondering what business started as a small local business and transformed into a huge company? A friend of mine has to write an article about a tiny company that transformed into a giant! So, I want to help him with several examples. Could you please provide some? I also need some sources to read about the company’s history and stuff like that.

@_Vlad_S,
There have been many businesses that started small and are able to achieve huge successes. I think it’s always like that because it’s hard to tell the difference when you started with big capital. So it should be this: dream big but start with small capital. Btw, here are the “10 Fortune 500 Companies That Started With Next to Nothing.”
1. Whole Foods Market – The company was started by the couple John Mackey and Rene Lawson Hardy. Their story is truly inspiring because they borrowed the money from family and friends, they went homeless and since they wanted to save on costs they decided to move and live full time in the store with no shower stall so they ended bathing in the Hobart dishwasher with an attached water hose. But look at them now, they’re continually rising.
2. Molson Coors - Adolf Coors started with an initial investment of $2000 in 1872 but now his company has grown to be one of the largest brewing companies in the world.
3. Apple – In 1976, both penniless Steve Wozniack and Steve Jobs they started with a credit in order to produce computers that started the now very popular company “Apple.”
4. Nordstrom – What is now known as the multi-billion dollar retail empire was started John W. Nordstrom, a 16-year-old boy, with only $5 to his name, from Sweden left his home for the promise of America.
5. Dell - Michael Dell just began with an idea and a $1,000 investment but now, Dell is ranked 34 on the Fortune 500.
6. Electronic Data Systems - In 1962, former presidential candidate Ross Perot founded EDS with $1000 but now, it is ranked 115 on the Fortune 500.
7. Mattel – Though known as a toy maker, it initially started with picture frames but now it is ranked 413 on the list of Fortune 500 companies.
8. Wrigley – The now largest gum company in the world started from soap to baking powder.
9. Starbucks - Three academics each invested $1350 in 1971 to open the store Starbucks Coffee, Tea, and Spice but in 2008, it’s being ranked 277 on the Fortune 500.
10. eBay Media – eBay started with a fabricated story by a public relations manager in 1997 just to interest the media and create a public buzz. And, the idea only started in eBay founder, Pierre Omidyar’s living room.
Now, their successes make them being tagged as giant companies in the world.
