i've seen this too.
it could be anything from between your computer, the lines, and mahalo lines/servers, etc.
if you are writing something VERY important, and longer, or even short that you don't want to lose, either copy it to a notepad or Word publishing software, (leave a window open), or just "control c" to hold it for later use.
i have to do that here, sometimes.
we live very rural. have high speed DSL but it does hang, drag and drop out at times. nothing's perfect. good luck!
