What books should be on my "must read" list?

Summer is almost here so I need to make a new reading list. Please suggest your favorite books (even if they were not best sellers). I love to read a wide variety of books so feel free to suggest fiction] and books from any era and genre. A blurb about the book or why you like it would be much appreciated.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky. It is by no means a light read but it really sucks you up right into it.
Dostoevsky has a gift to brilliantly understand the human mind and to write about it in such a way that you can really relate to the characters.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen is one of my personal favourites not only because of the story which deeply influenced my views on love but also because the writing style is very good (sometimes I got goosebumps from certain sentences)

The virgin suicides by jeffrey eugenides is something completely different but very enjoyable. It's written from an unusual point of view and that is interesting in its own way.

If you like the idea of jurassic park (the movie) you can read the book or some of the other works of Michael Crighton. Most of them are sci-fi "what would happen if we could.." (e.g. revive dinosaurs) kind of books. But he has done a lot of research so they're really good. I can really recommend "Timeline"
It describes what would happen if a company invents timetravel and how it would exploit this. It's very interesting to see how modern-day humans would react if they are sent to the middle ages. I firmly belive Crighton does a very good job at describing this in a credible way.

If you're into thrillers, everything by John Grisham is good or if you like james-bond like military action than I suggest Andy McNab (crisis four is my favourite)

I hope you can enjoy some of these books

You may read Mahatma Gandhi's 'My Experiments with Truth' and ' A Biography of Swami Vivekananda' by Swami Nikhilananda. These are two of the best books I have read.

For a "hard to put down" book be sure to read Russian Concubine by Kate Furnivall. The storyline has it all, action, passion, hate, and glory.

On the lighter side, pick up a copy of Everything and a Kite. This is Ray Romano's first book and filled with funny stories of his life.

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz is a wealth of knowledge and understanding. It is "a practical guide to personal freedom - A toltec wisdom book". I can read it again and again and still gain insight and understanding. Very inspirational.
