What books are recommended for a 14 year old boy?

Non-vampire books please.
Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The "Cherub" series of books by Robert Muchamore is excellent. The story is about 10 - 18 year old spies, who infiltrate criminal gangs.

There are 12 (so far) books in the series, each a full-length novel.

They should be read in order, starting with "The Recruit".

There is another, related, series by the same author, called the "Henderson Boys".

There is another series of books called "The Lion Boy" - 3 books in the series - about a teenager whose parents are kidnapped mysteriously. His quest to find them is helped by a special gift that he has ...

I found a post by Ann and these are the highly recommended books by booksellers, teachers, librarians, and kids themselves.

---quote---
1.The Burn Journals by Brent Runyon -- This devastating memoir opens with the author's decision at the age of 14 to douse his bathrobe with gasoline and light himself on fire. Brent suffered burns over 85% of his body, and endured a very long and painful recovery.

2.The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon -- Christopher Boone is a teen autistic savant, obsessed with Sherlock Holmes and excellent at math.

3.Maus: A Survivor's Tale by Art Spiegelman -- This graphic novel was both the winner of the Pulitzer Prize and an American Library Association Best Book for Young Adults.

4.Genghis: Birth of an Empire by Conn Iggulden -- you may recognize the author's name from The Dangerous Book for Boys, but I know Conn Iggulden best for his sweeping historical fiction. In this novel, Iggulden tells the captivating story of Genghis Khan, who was an ambitious and brilliant tactician even as a young man. This book entertains as well as informs, is fast-paced and exciting, and should be devoured by any boy who likes history.

Images #1 to #4 are the books mentioned above.
