You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Birth control methods that are safe for breastfeeding women include:

Spermicide: This is another birth control method that works well for breastfeeding women and it has no effect on the baby or the mother.

Non-hormonal Intrauterine Device (IUD): It is a very effective method and has no effect on mother and child.

Condoms: These have no effect on the baby or the breastfeeding mother, and they are the most effective choice.

Diaphragm: This method does not also have an effect on the breastfeeding mother or baby and is has been proven to be effective

periodic abstinence: This is also known as Planning. This has no effect on breastfeeding and can be a very effective choice.
Other permanent birth control methods are:
male voluntary surgical sterilization (Vasectomy): This has no effect on breastfeeding and is 100% effective.

female voluntary sterilization (Tubal Ligation): This has no effect on breastfeeding and is 100% effective. However, the actual procedure requires anesthesia, which can pass into breast milk and have an effect on the baby (drowsiness resulting in difficulty with feedings).
