Forty years ago, four young lads from Canada were burning up American stages with their hip sound and looks. Burton Cummings and The Guess Who were between sets one night and the band was slow returning to the stage. As an incentive to the members that were lagging behind, the guys on the stage just started playing some warm-up chord progressions. As each member took the stage and added a part to it, the crowd began to dig it (I can talk like that, I lived through it). Each show after that they added a bit to it until they had their only number one hit, American Woman. It turned out to be an antiwar song lamenting the lack of young men at their shows, as they were all in the war in 1970.

Years later, a band of messed up drug addicts completely desecrated the great tune given to us by Burton and the boys. Or did they? It's either pure genius or pure crap, you decide. The Butthole Surfers covered American Woman in their own inimitable style. Or perhaps they drove a dump truck full speed into an alley full of empty garbage cans. One or the other, you decide.

My favorite version ever of Ike and Tina Turner's song "I think it's going to work out Fine" was done by Ry Cooder on Bop 'til you drop. I was not impressed with Linda Ronstadts version

Like you, I wasn't that impressed with the Dixie Chicks singing 'Landslide'. I love Fleetwood Mac doing it so much better. There are two songs that come to mind that I didn't even like before their makeover. I used to do to a club in Louisville, when I was younger. These are some songs that would play there, that I just feel in love with.

1. Amii Stewart - Knock On Wood

I have heard about every version out there, slow, moderate and fast. Nothing compares to Amii's. I don't like Cher or Rachel Stevens singing it either.

2. Rose Royce – Car Wash (Process House Mix)

I have it on my computer but it's awesome. I don't like the regular version, I don't like Christina Aguilera singing it either. This is the only version of this song that I like. It's extremely up beat and fun!
