What are your thoughts on the Pause of Mahalo Answers?

It seems that Mahalo Answers is being faded out. I miss all the wonderful community members who left at the last announcement (Mahalo, all about Charity). I loved being a member, and helping others by offering my answers to the questions. It was so nice interacting with so many great people, and I also learned many things myself by reading all the great Answers and Questions. I would also like to thank Buddawiggi for all his dedication to Mahalo. I hope Jason changes his mind, and perhaps brings back the old original version of Mahalo Answers! But my question is, What are your thoughts, and do you think this is the end of Mahalo Answers section? Thank you.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Well, I must say that Mahalo has been the best community of friends and people I have yet to find on the tubes of the internets. I got used to the changes, twists and turns... but when the community left, I couldn't stay anymore since that's what really made me happy here.

One thing I do know in the world of websites and the internet is that once you pause... you're gone.

This is the most fitting 'Good-bye' video I could find...

I have many thoughts on Mahalo Answers. Even though I am a computer otaku and have made my living on web development, I really never cared much about social media. But for some reason, Mahalo Answers really struck my fancy, and I devoted a great deal of my free time to the site. I firmly believe that both men and women love a good soap opera, it's just that the male version takes strange forms sometimes. My favorite soap opera (aside from F1) for quite some time was the interactions between jason, lon, jeff, buddawiggi, albanian, phu, rob and many other staff and super-users of Mahalo, many of very different walks of life (and it was a 24 hour a day show.. appealing to expatriates on the other side of the globe like me). It was more the interactions between these people I came to know through Q&A that attracted me more than the actual Q&A itself. But that is not to say that there were not really great questions and really great answers that taught me a great many things. It was just that the real drive was always the community (or soap opera in my special terminology).

But as with many things in life, money always plays a role. Jason built Mahalo from nothing to something special. What caused the need for a "pause" is hard to say. It could be that it simply ran it's course (the stars went out of line and such) or a wrong management turn here and there.

Regardless, I will always have fond memories of my peak times as a Mahaloan. And who knows, another peak could happen again some day.

My final wish is that if the pause does become permanent, that Jason can come up with some creative ideas for letting one of his "children" free to rebuild elsewhere (at the right price of course). There was once mention of it all being about charity. Maybe a charity organization (Kiva?) might be able to meld the Mahalo Answers engine into some sort of offshoot of their core mission to help build a community and foster donations. Who knows…

At any rate, thanks Jason for Mahalo Answers, and thank you to everyone in the community for giving me my soap opera!!

I think this 'pause' was just waiting to happen. While Answers was soaring to great hights until about a year ago (I think), it quickly went downhill when they chose to introduce the many 'sister' sites, with all their forced Q&A. While I can see why they did it, it severely hindered the main Answers site, to the point where regular questions were hard to find in between all the 'ask' or 'nioxin' questions.

Of course the final blow was the ' all about charity' thing, which drove out the last few community members.

It's really too bad, as I really enjoyed Mahalo for as long as it endured, most notably its solid community and extremely open and accessible staff. I have never met an internet company that has acted as openly and empowering as Mahalo, and I thank them for trying to build the best Q&A site possible.

I'm gonna miss Mahalo (heck, I already miss it!), and all the Internet friends I made here. I know that Jason has made his share of mistakes with Mahalo (even though he probably won't acknowledge that himself), but I truly applaud him for trying to do what no-one else did.

Thanks for that, and I hope you come up with some great brand-new ideas to either breathe new life into Mahalo Answers, or other.

As I said in another thread:
Goodbye, and thanks for all the fish!

Maybe the pause in the answers is the result of Mahalo trying to stop all the automatic spammers. I hope that's it.
I too miss the community of Mahalo. Without it there is no reason to be here. I'll miss the dailly chances to be helpful and to be helped.:(

I would hope so too, but seriously doubt id. Jason clearly stated that Mahalo Answers isn't making enough money to be self-sustaining, and I'm quite convinced that is accurate.

I actually think it is the end of Mahalo, they will have reasonable success with the video content they run through, but the "learn anything" slant has always been filled in a better fashion by other sites.

The Answers section is what gave Mahalo the unique spin and while it seems it may not have been as profitable it was the only thing keeping many people here.

I was so sad to see the changes in Mahalo. I keep coming back in hopes that some semblance of what was will be again. But alas it is not meant to be. I was beginning to build some nice friendships (or at least I thought so) and I miss those. When you are housebound for the most part it's nice to have a good community of people such as was Mahalo to help fill your time. I have tried other varied sites to fill my time but not compared to what Mahalo once was. After answering 2 or 3 questions today I saw this one and stopped to make a comment. I think this shall be my final farewell. So be the one, the one who encourages others, the one who inspires, the one to make a difference in this vast world of indifference.

I think it stinks (I would have put a more potent word here, but I don't want to tick people off) and I wish I actually had a hint that it was going away. I guess it wasn't profitable or as useful as the company expected it to be, and I get that.

I wonder why it just didn't turn into a mobile service like Chacha, because people are always scratching their heads and looking to get their questions answered.

Hi there,
a pause is never an last point of life
but if you stop you will lost everything .......

Mahalo has always gone through cycles of change and ups and downs. We are going through a slower time right now but if things go like they always do we will be on the upswing before too long. Have patience, have some fun, things will get better soon, :)

old original version of Mahalo Answers was so nice
but as other site mahalo think that they upgrade more in their sites like other sites...
but they dont get success ....

I just joined Mahalo today and the first thing that really got me interested was Mahalo Answers. I found a question that got me interested and answered with what I thought would help the person. To me the question was sincere and that the author really needed some help with her situation.

I haven't been a member long enough to give a good judgement on whether or not Answers should be phased out but I think that there are some people who need help with things and being a member here at Mahalo is a way for them to seek answers or possible solutions to their problems.

It was a lot of fun, and I really miss the lively exchanges that took place among all the regulars on the old Mahalo, but all good things must come to an end, so....

Mahalo Answers has been a wonderful community for a long time for many. The end of the guide and guru programs, originally page management, was a serious hit to those who contributed. Now a 'pause' in the Answers site? Mahalo Answers is what started it all, and IMO is the backbone of the site, regardless of revenue. Users are still joining (take a peek at the pulse) every few minutes. I'd suggest that they join to engage in the MA community as well as to "learn anything".

I thank Mahalo for the amazing opportunities to be a part of an evolving business and the chance to research, write and to contribute. I've enjoyed every minute of being a part of creating content and responding to questions.

I'll continue to be here, off and on, to see where this wave takes us all...

Me too! I am really sorry it has ended. I looked forward to coming on each day, and answering questions, and interacting with all the great members. Hope they will consider bringing Answers back.
