Well, just off the top of my head...

Unlike more structured dance forms, interpretive dance pushes the boundaries of expression by allowing the dancer to freely tap into inner resources in order to create on-the-spot choreography. Through breath, natural movement impulse and raw emotion, the dancer and the dance become one.

(Did I mention I'm roomies with an interpretive dancer?...)

Interpretive dance is a term defined differently by different people but it generally focuses on movement as an expression of inner truths, especially ones that words are insufficient for. One of the cool things about it is that it can be done by those with tons of formal dance training and also by those with little or none (some people see that as a bad thing but I think it's cool). Spontaneity is key, and so in that way it is a bridge between what we think of as "dance" and a more playful version of how we move in our daily lives, metaphorically and literally.
