If anything, it's safer to have homosexuals out in the military than for them to be in the closet due to outdated and inhumane policies. Can you imagine if an enemy were able to obtain some kind of photographic proof of a closeted homosexual in the military engaging in homosexual behavior, how that could negatively effect their entire platoon or squadron? They could blackmail the closet case into giving up information in return for them not telling on them for being a homosexual.
Ancient civilizations encouraged homosexual behavior between soldiers because the sexual connection only served to heighten their loyalty to one another. It made them better fighters, because they weren't only protecting their nation or some untouchable moral standard or ideal, but they were protecting the men standing next to them in combat. Brought things a bit closer to home, so to speak.
There's nothing wrong with homosexuality, and I think most soldiers realize they have more important things to be worrying about than whether or not someone they're fighting with is gay or not. Lives are at stake, and it's ridiculous to keep a capable soldier of fighting just because he prefers the same sex.

He's worried about getting eyed up by another guy when there's a war going on? Really? Anyway, just because a man is gay doesn't mean he's sexually attracted to every other male on the planet. They have preferences just like heterosexual men, so unless your husband is a total stud muffin, he probably doesn't have to worry.
Furthermore, men who say things like 'I have no problem with homosexuals so long as they don't hit on me' disgust me, especially because 9 times out of 10, these heterosexual men are making unwanted passes at females on a fairly consistent basis. Unless they're dead sure the girl is attracted to them, they shouldn't be hitting on her then, since they don't like when it happens to them.
