What are your memories of Lena Horne, who passed away this past weekend at the age of 92?

Although I had been aware of her singing and civil rights activities, her appearance on The Cosby Show in the mid-80's stands out. It was about the time that I was most involved in and listening to jazz, and she knocked me out with her beautiful voice. (Not to mention her beauty and her smile.)

I am sad that she has passed away, but what beauty she has left behind!

I always thought Lena Horne was so beautiful and so talented. As a little girl I looked up to her especially since she was one of the few African-American women potrayed on television at the time. Her legend will live on. I remember most seeing her on Sanford and Son. His roughness and her elegance made a memorable pair :).

I love everything about the history and development of popular music in America, in all genres, and have done so all my life. When I was in High School in the 70's , I secretly bought an album of Lena Horne's greatest hits (my pals didn't understand anything but Led Zep) and I will never forget the first time I heard "Stormy Weather" . Attached is a version from the film of the same name. What a beautiful and classy woman, and what a talent.

One of my favorite things growing up that I've been able to share with my kids is Lena singing the ABC's with the muppets of Sesame Street. We still walk around singing it like Lena all these years later.

Cheers!
