What are your favourite audio podcasts?

Always on the look out for new good ones. All types considered.

My faves right now include Collins and Herring, Adam and Joe, Phil and Phill, Selected Shorts, This American Life, The Moth Podcast, Stephen Fry's Podgrams, Escape Pod, You Look Nice Today, Variant Frequencies, Lake Woebegone, Radio Lab, SETI, New Yorker Fiction, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, Friday Night Comedy, In Our Time, Berkeley Groks Science Show, Fly With Me, Tom Robinson introducing, Ted Talks, Philosophy Bites, Daily Source Code, Thinking Allowed.

And yes, I do actually listen to most episodes. I subscribe via Google Reader so I can choose whether to download. I do pass sometimes if the topic or guest doesn't interest me. I listen to podcasts about 90 minutes a day, on average.
Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Naruwan... TWiT IS an audio podcast (check the site that was linked) but Leo Laporte also streams video for much of what he does. The Netcast are audio only though with the streaming just being live on his site if you wish to check it out.

TWiT has a TON of downloadable *AUDIO* podcasts. Check out: http://twit.tv/
both online and iTunes.

He also have video too.

I'd rather talk about downloadable *AUDIO* podcasts, rather than streaming video and video podcasts, but thanks anyway for the input :-)

@connectedgeek My bad. I checked the link you provided and didn't find any audio. Guess I should have looked harder. My humble apologies....

@spoon thanks for the clarification. I've been back and have now subscribed to the Futures in Biotech podcast. Looks like fascinating stuff.

The podcasts you would like are probably different that the podcasts I would like. I have found that the podcasts that I like have to do with my hobbies and some personal interests. Here is a list of what I am listening to

TWIT network podcasts (http://twit.tv)
This week in Tech (TWIT)
Net @ Nite
Windows weekly

NPR podcasts (http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast/podcast_directory.php)
Car Talk
This American Life
Science Friday
Wait Wait Don't Tell me

Video Gaming podcasts
Cheap Ass Gamer or CagCast (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/archives/cat_cagcast.php)
Major Nelson's BlogCast (http://majornelson.com/archive/tags/Blogcast+_2800_MP3_2900_/default.aspx)

Political podcasts
No agenda (http://noagenda.podshow.com/feed)

All of these can be found on iTunes. iTunes is a great way to find good (and not so good) podcasts.

Thanks for recommendations. I never rule anything out. I'll give almost any podcast a try if someone is raving enthusiastically about it. I say 'almost' because, you know, if it's about gardening tips for seniors or something I might decide to pass on that !

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Coverville (www.coverville.com), one of the earliest podcasts and still going strong. Here's a guy with a simple premise - a music show about cover tunes - that has kept him going for years now. He never strays far from the theme but always comes up with a spin to keep it interesting such as doing "cover stories" where he'll do nothing but cover songs from a single band. My favorite part might well be the "musically challenged" trivia segment at the end of many shows, which he often plays with his wife and son. Family friendly! Brian, the host, is a full time podcaster. This is not somebody who was already in the business and simply made a podcast out of his existing show, like so many NPR types of shows. This is one where just one guy managed to put something out with a high degree of consistency and quality, and I can't say enough good things about his contributions to the business.

Yup, I also subscribe to Coverville but I don't often listen, mainly because I have so much other stuff to listen to. I do have quite a backlog of Coverville shows to listen to. I'll probably burn them onto CDs and listen in the car. I agree with you that it's one of the best "home-made" podcasts out there, i.e. it's not an offshoot of a newspaper/magazine or radio show.

I also like the Pandora podcasts which are short and sweet. [Too bad we can no longer get Pandora in Taiwan but that's another story!]

My favorite podcast is the TAPS family and TAPS pararadio podcast. I have listened to other paranormal podcasts and radio shows, but none do quite as well as TAPS.

I have listened to TWiT and Security Now since the first episodes.
Security Now isn't for everyone, but I have learned more about technology and the internet from that podcast than anywhere else.

I haven't kept up as regularly with the Scientific American podcast, but I enjoyed it while I listened to it.

I will have to check out some of the other podcasts listed here, thanks for asking this question.

In addition to TWiT and In Our Time (already mentioned), I'm a fan of:

BBC - From Our Own Correspondent
(personal field reports from BBC news correspondents)
http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/radio4/fooc/rss.xml

BBC - Mark Kermode (film reviews and "wittertainment")
http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/fivelive/kermode/rss.xml

CBC - Quirks and Quarks (science)
http://www.cbc.ca/podcasting/includes/quirksaio.xml

BTW, until your post, I didn't know about the "Adam and Joe" and "Collins and Herring" podcasts. I loved the TV shows "Adam and Joe Show" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Adam_and_Joe_Show ) and "This Morning with Richard Not Judy" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/This_Morning_With_Richard_Not_Judy ). Thanks!
