Here is a resource that I found for matching people with volunteer positions and other services - check it out.
Of course you would need to thoroughly check this and any information they give out thoroughly
just like you do with anything on the Net, but they look very useful. Here is how they describe themselves:
"The organization offers a variety of online services to support a community of nonprofit, volunteer and business leaders committed to civic engagement. Our popular service welcomes millions of visitors a year and has become the preferred internet recruiting tool for more than 72,000 nonprofit organizations."

I just came back from a 4-day trip to Lake Tahoe on the Nevada/California border with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) Team in Training (TNT, see http://www.teamintraining.org/ ). While at Lake Tahoe, I participated in "America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride 2010", a 100-mile bike ride around the lake (with 30 of those miles along the Truckee). It was an extraordinary feeling to be one of 1300 cyclists from TNT (out of about 3000 cyclists total on the ride). Together, we raised over $6,000,000 through this ride. Riding 100 miles is not the easiest thing in the world, and doing it at elevations of 6000 - 7000 feet above sea level, with only a day and a half to acclimate to the lower atmospheric pressure made it even more challenging. However, it was a wonderful ride, with amazing scenery, and a great spirit of camaraderie. You can read more about the TNT cycling program at http://www.teamintraining.org/firsttimehere/sportprograms/centuryridescycle . I would most definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to make a difference, and who is willing to get off the couch and train. If you follow the training program, which is not very difficult because it is done gradually over several months, you will be ready for the ride and will complete it.
You can read more about my training for a previous 100 mile bike ride at http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2220001/getting_fit_while_raising_funds_to.html .
You can see a video of the 2007 ride (the general one, not TNT-specific, though you'll see many TNT riders with the word "TEAM" easily visible on their jerseys) at http://www.bikethewest.com/video/ambbr-2007a/index.html .
A slide show of the Lake Tahoe area and satellite imagery can be seen at http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=215 .
A more detailed description of the ride is available at http://yubanet.com/regional/America-s-Most-Beautiful-Bike-Ride-Around-Lake-Tahoe-is-June-6.php .
