Today, we are celebrating the Fourth of July, by relaxing around the house and being around each other. We are going to the grocery store and picking out our favorite things to grill and some sides, then we are going to grill.
Later tonight we are going to the Fourth of July festival to watch the fireworks.
This is the first time my daughter is going to see them so it will be an awesome day!

M$usually I am out of town hanging with my family at the big party. This year though the family did not gather, I think its because next week there is a big family wedding. I am the mom of the bride at a Renaissance wedding which will be so much fun.
Last night I went with my daughter and her family to the fireworks in the next town! It was nice and without them I would not have gone as its too far of a walk. My youngest grand daughter Adrienne who is 2 weeks older than Jason's London was so wide eyed at the fireworks. She did not mind the noise at all, and just babbled and pointed at them. My other grand children Lexie (6) and John (2) enjoyed them as well. That is the best way to enjoy fireworks. with family.
Today I've been home since about noon by myself, so rather than grilling for one I had a sandwich and a dish of potato salad. I cranked the music and enjoyed the solo time here. Its 10 pm and i hear all sort of fireworks going off around town.

M$Since my children are grown and neither is here with me this weekend, I'll spend the fourth of July enjoying working on things around the house. I'm a gardener and the produce is starting to roll in. I'll bring the dogs in this evening because fireworks (though they are illegal) will be going off and tend to scare them. I can see, to the east, over the tops of some low trees, the fireworks that are set of at a regular July 4 celebration. I'll take my chair out on that side of the house, take a nice glass of wine, and enjoy them.
It's difficult to top the fireworks we saw about a dozen years ago here in Fort Worth, TX. It was a big year for sharing with our Sister City, Nagaoka, Japan, and they sent the MOST AMAZING fireworks, ornate flower shapes and such. We went down to the side of the Trinity River with the kids, took some folding chairs, and watched them go off above and reflect in the river below.
There are several local firework shows scheduled, but this last week we've had so much rain lately that it is very humid to spend the time outside in order to get to a show and then to stay for the duration. My lawn chair and wine will be more comfortable and convenient!

There is a web page about a book about their fireworks: http://www.japan-fireworks.com/gallery/donto/edontoindex.html
My neighborhood is quiet, but there is usually someone hosting a barbecue. I can enjoy the day vicariously, watching them come and go, listening to the laughter, catching a whiff of the barbecue. Those kinds of events send off good vibrations, enough to make the neighborhood feel like a jovial place today. I have a special sauce I make for my barbecues and I'll probably cook up a batch, cut up a chicken and cook it on the charcoal grill, just in case either of the kids happens to drop as a surprise this evening.
Finally, if any of the readers of this are followers here a Mahalo, you may remember that I researched good flat screen HDMI televisions in a couple of questions. I followed my own research and advice and when a good sale came along, I did buy one (a 42" Vizio 1080 120mhz set). So if we have rain this evening, I'll watch the PBS Capital Fourth celebration, and watch the fireworks on a really marvelous screen.
