What are *you* doing to celebrate the Fourth of July?

Cooking hot dogs on the grill with the family? Taking the boat out for a spin on the lake? Shooting off fireworks in the old backyard? Fill us in on your favorite July 4 hotspots and traditions. And, aside from just having fun, are you doing anything particularly patriotic today? Oh, and what traditions am I busting out today? I pulled a picture from a gig I played on the Fourth in 2008 to let ya know ;-)

First of all let me start by saying nice picture, nice pants! Very festive!

Today, we are celebrating the Fourth of July, by relaxing around the house and being around each other. We are going to the grocery store and picking out our favorite things to grill and some sides, then we are going to grill.
Later tonight we are going to the Fourth of July festival to watch the fireworks.
This is the first time my daughter is going to see them so it will be an awesome day!

very cool photo Corey thanks for sharing. I love any party where there is live music.

usually I am out of town hanging with my family at the big party. This year though the family did not gather, I think its because next week there is a big family wedding. I am the mom of the bride at a Renaissance wedding which will be so much fun.

Last night I went with my daughter and her family to the fireworks in the next town! It was nice and without them I would not have gone as its too far of a walk. My youngest grand daughter Adrienne who is 2 weeks older than Jason's London was so wide eyed at the fireworks. She did not mind the noise at all, and just babbled and pointed at them. My other grand children Lexie (6) and John (2) enjoyed them as well. That is the best way to enjoy fireworks. with family.

Today I've been home since about noon by myself, so rather than grilling for one I had a sandwich and a dish of potato salad. I cranked the music and enjoyed the solo time here. Its 10 pm and i hear all sort of fireworks going off around town.

First of all LOVE THE PANTS !! perfect for a 4TH of July gig. Unfortentley I am spending my 4Th in the damned hospital. From what I wear I will be able to see some awsome fireworks for Iam on the 8 *th floor at Uof M Hospital. However going on a boat ride and having a cook out is for sure the patrotic way to celebrate the holiday and what fun !!

Contrary to the impression that what one must do on July 4 is go somewhere or do some big party, I think a lot of people simply enjoy the day doing what they really want to do, often than means staying home and not fighting traffic, crowds, etc.

Since my children are grown and neither is here with me this weekend, I'll spend the fourth of July enjoying working on things around the house. I'm a gardener and the produce is starting to roll in. I'll bring the dogs in this evening because fireworks (though they are illegal) will be going off and tend to scare them. I can see, to the east, over the tops of some low trees, the fireworks that are set of at a regular July 4 celebration. I'll take my chair out on that side of the house, take a nice glass of wine, and enjoy them.

It's difficult to top the fireworks we saw about a dozen years ago here in Fort Worth, TX. It was a big year for sharing with our Sister City, Nagaoka, Japan, and they sent the MOST AMAZING fireworks, ornate flower shapes and such. We went down to the side of the Trinity River with the kids, took some folding chairs, and watched them go off above and reflect in the river below.

There are several local firework shows scheduled, but this last week we've had so much rain lately that it is very humid to spend the time outside in order to get to a show and then to stay for the duration. My lawn chair and wine will be more comfortable and convenient!

There is a web page about a book about their fireworks: http://www.japan-fireworks.com/gallery/donto/edontoindex.html

My neighborhood is quiet, but there is usually someone hosting a barbecue. I can enjoy the day vicariously, watching them come and go, listening to the laughter, catching a whiff of the barbecue. Those kinds of events send off good vibrations, enough to make the neighborhood feel like a jovial place today. I have a special sauce I make for my barbecues and I'll probably cook up a batch, cut up a chicken and cook it on the charcoal grill, just in case either of the kids happens to drop as a surprise this evening.

Finally, if any of the readers of this are followers here a Mahalo, you may remember that I researched good flat screen HDMI televisions in a couple of questions. I followed my own research and advice and when a good sale came along, I did buy one (a 42" Vizio 1080 120mhz set). So if we have rain this evening, I'll watch the PBS Capital Fourth celebration, and watch the fireworks on a really marvelous screen.

Well, we were supposed to have this big family reunion on the third but it rained all day so most of the family didn't show up. Then today we were going to take our son fishing and then cook out but it rained all day today too! I think it has stopped for awhile so maybe we will get to do some fireworks after while. :) Not only has it been raining but it's July and only 75 degrees right now. Which is pleasant but just odd for Oklahoma in July.
