this is what works for me, make a tea with hot water, crushed garlic(as much as you can handle), and the juice from a whole lemon. Sip a couple of these a day. The second thing is I take a large amount of Cayenne pepper. The pepper can be taken one of two ways, the cayenne bomb, which is stirring in a teaspoon of cayenne in a glass of water and down the hatch. Not a great taste and the first time I did the cayenne bomb I thought I was going to vomit. The second way of taking the pepper is to mix it in with your food, what I found the best is to mix it with some mashed potatoes. so, in re-cap, two tea a day and two doses of pepper a day. For me when I feel a cold coming on and follow these steps by the second day it is gone. try it,, see if it works for you.

1. Sleep! Your body right now is in overdrive fighting off the cold and you will need extra rest. More so than normal. That extra added rest will give you a quicker recovery time. You'll be tired anyway from the cold so why not sleep?

2. Drive plenty of fluids. These fluids can include soup, water, juice (for that vitamin c we all need) or tea. No dairy here like milk. This can increase the thickness of your mucus and you do not want that. Keep glass of water always next to your bed. You will need to replenish those fluids that are lost and keep your body constantly hydrated.

3. Eat foods that are spicy! This is my personal favorite and I don't need a cold as an excuse to eat them. What does this do? This forces out the mucus which is a good thing.

4. Now this falls under the fluids category but in particular you should drink ginger tea. I'm not a big fan of it but it does work. It will calm that itchy and scratchy throat that has you up at all hours of the night which can be a nightmare to deal with. It will also help to clear out your nose. Ah relief! You can actually breathe, maybe not smell yet but that will come back in due time, I promise.

5. Eat garlic. Chop up a couple of cloves and put it in your food. If you don't like garlic, you can always take a capsule. It helps to clear things up, gets rid of fluids and is antiviral along with antibacterial. Not bad huh?

6. Take Echinacea. I always have a bottle of this in my house. I bought them in capsule form but you can also open the capsule and add it to water to make tea with it. Echinacea helps to strengthen and boost your immune system. This is what you need most while you are fighting a cold.

This works for me every time within two or three days.

1. Dayquil and Nyquill Take it as often as the bottle recommends (the real stuff, generic does not work), but don't use the doseage cup, take a mouthful each time.

2. Orange Juice - buy it, drink it, love it at least 2 glasses a day

3. 2 Showers a day one when you wake up and one when you go to bed.

4. Sleep, ideally for 12 hours at a time

Depending on the situation
If dust causes me to show symptoms of cold then I would clean the house. It is the best way to fight the cold.
If I get cold from some other person then a dose of Vitamin C is the best way for me to fight the cold.
Useful :)

There are plenty of ways to fight a cold. Take a daily vitamin, drink lots of liquids with vitamin C, get a good nights rest, drink soup, drink green tea with antioxidants, and take a hot steamy shower opposed to a very cold one. You may also want to try boiling up some ginger root and inhaling it, as this will beat the congestion.
