What are those metal frames some people have around individual teeth?

I live in Southern California, and I frequently see people who have metal frames around one or more of their front, upper teeth. I have Googled every description I can think of and looked at lists of dental procedures. I can't find anything! These aren't crowns; it's more like a bead of metal running around the edge of the tooth. Is this a low-cost alternative to crowns?

Here's a quick illustration of what it kind of looks like.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

They are gold, silver or platinum removable tooth caps.
This is a way for some to shelter assets. For others it's a status symbol.

Thanks for your answer, but this is WAY not what I'm talking about. I know about caps and grills. I said I live in Southern California, not under a rock.

It's just a bead of metal running around the edge of the tooth. I'll try to make an illustration.

My mistake, I did not intend to challenge your astuteness.
The only other thing I can say is that in Europe old dental bridges had metal fittings which surrounded neighboring natural teeth.
I hope you find that which you seek. All the best.
