What are the various types of acupuncture?
What is TCM based acupuncture? How is this type different from Korean hand acupuncture? Do the different types of acupuncture use the same type of needles?

Hello jonsigler,
Acupuncture is a part of the integrated ancient Chinese system of health care, also known as Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM. Acupuncture aims to prevent and promote natural healing to improve body functions. Very fine sterilized needles are inserted at the acupuncture points. Acupuncture points or acu-points are points along the body’s 14 major meridians (also known as energy channels). The life energy or Qi as the Chinese term it flows through these meridians. Chinese healers believe that illness is caused by a disruption in the flow of Qi leading to an imbalance of energy. They ‘correct’ it using acupuncture. I think this answers your second question.
As to your first question, although the acupuncture procedure is same, there are number of variants in acupuncture. For example, apart from traditional Chinese acupuncture, there are other types of acupuncture such as Five Element Acupuncture, Japanese Acupuncture, Korean Acupuncture, Trigger Point Acupuncture, Electro-Acupuncture, and Auricular Acupuncture. You can get more information on these types of acupuncture from the following websites:
