What are the symptoms of the Swine Flu?

I was curious as to the symptoms of the Swine Flu.

With other types of the flu, we typically do not go to the doctor, and just stay in bed and ride the flu out. At what point she we be concerned and seek medical attention?

How can we distinguish the difference between the Swine Flu and other flu's, or can we?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

It is quite difficult to differentiate between Swine flu (H1N1) and the common flu. Although the symptoms of the Swine flu are more intense than that of the common flu, it is still hard to tell the difference by just mere observation. But when one begins to notice a difference in their flu symptoms, swine flu is always suspected.
Here are some symptoms of the swine flu and how they differ from the common flu:

* Fever is one of the significant differences between the Swine flu and common flu. The Swine flu fever is usually higher, about 101°.

* The onset of the Swine flu is within 3-6 hours with a lot of flu symptoms but the common flu takes some days to develop.

* Swine flu comes with severe aches and pains while this is not so common with the common flu

* Patients with Swine flu tend to have severe Chest discomfort which is usually moderate in patients with the common flu.

*Cough, chills and headaches are very severe in patients with the Swine flu

The symptoms of the swine flu are as follows:

If you have a temperature of over 100.4 degrees F and two or more of these symptoms below, then you my have the swine flu.

1. unusual tiredness
2. headache
3. runny nose
4. sore throat
5. shortness of breath or cough
6. loss of appetite
7. muscle aches
8. diarrhea or vomiting

If you have the swine flu, the symptoms are generally mild and you'll get better with bed rest. Some people are at higher risk of more serious illness. Those people include those with chronic lung, heart, kidney, liver and neurological disease. Also those people with immunosupression and diabetes are at greater risk. Age also plays a factor, as those that are over 65 and under 5 are at higher risk for more serious complications.

Swine Flu as the case maybe has been given a new name, just after the onset of the first outbreak in Mexico, which is now named as AH1N1, to address the issues raised by hog growers, that by naming it a swine flu, it discourages consumers from eating pork, due to its moniker. It was just so named due to the fact that the source of the virus came from pigs, however this current strain has evolved that it has now the ability to transfer from one individual to another, despite having no known encounters of swines.

Accordingly the symptoms of AH1N1 resemble that of a common flu, in such a case there is fever, feeling chilly, coughing, runny nose and headache. Individuals infected of AH1N1 also experience a case of diarrhea, as well as occasional bout of vomiting. However, in order to confirm infection, is you should undergo a rapid flu test, that may be undertaken by your personal physician.
