This is such a helpful chart; pass it along to anyone you know! Knowing the difference between Cold and H1N1 Flu symptoms

Symptom - Fever Cold - Fever is rare with a cold.
H1N1 Flu - Fever is usually present with the flu in up to 80% of all flu cases. A temperature of 100°F or higher lasting for 3 to 4 days is associated with the flu.

Symptom - Coughing Cold - A hacking, productive (mucus producing) cough is often present with a cold.
H1N1 Flu - A non-productive (non-mucus producing) cough is usually present with the flu (sometimes referred to as dry cough).

Symptom - Aches Cold - Slight body aches and pains can be part of a cold.
H1N1 Flu - Severe aches and pains are common with the flu.

Symptom - Stuffy Nose Cold - Stuffy nose is commonly present with a cold and typically resolves spontaneously within a week.
H1N1 Flu - Stuffy nose is not commonly present with the flu.

Symptom - Chills Cold - Chills are uncommon with a cold.
H1N1 Flu - 60% of people who have the flu experience chills.

Symptom - Tiredness Cold - Tiredness is fairly mild with a cold.
H1N1 Flu - Tiredness is moderate to severe with the flu.

Symptom - Sneezing Cold - Sneezing is commonly present with a cold.
H1N1 Flu - Sneezing is not common with the flu.

Symptom - Headache Cold - A headache is fairly uncommon with a cold.
H1N1 Flu - A headache is very common with the flu, present in 80% of flu cases.

Symptom - Sore Throat Cold - Sore throat is commonly present with a cold.
H1N1 Flu - Sore throat is not commonly present with the flu.

Symptom - Chest Discomfort Cold - Chest discomfort is mild to moderate with a cold.
H1N1 Flu - Chest discomfort is often severe with the flu.

Sudden Symptoms Cold - Cold symptoms tend to develop over a few days.
H1N1 Flu - The flu has a rapid onset within 3-6 hours. The flu hits hard and includes sudden symptoms like high fever, aches and pains.

The only way to stop the spread of the epidemic is to spread the awareness.

the symptoms of swine flu is similar to the symptoms of ordinary flu: cough, runny nose, fever. The main symptom is the high temperature.

------------quote-------------
If you or a member of your family has a fever or high temperature (over 38°C/100.4°F) and two or more of the following symptoms, you may have swine flu:

* unusual tiredness,
* headache,
* runny nose,
* sore throat,
* shortness of breath or cough,
* loss of appetite,
* aching muscles,
* diarrhoea or vomiting.

When I started coming down with it, I had a headache followed by a really weird feeling in my head. The fever came a couple days later. I was out of breath, tired, had hot and cold flashes, and felt achy all over. I also coughed a lot!

I think the symptoms differ from person to person. It has been published that the swine flu impacts have been greater to pregnant women and young children so watch out for severe symptoms in those categories. My whole family has been infected with the virus. Our ages range from 12 to 40 and our symptoms ranged from just a headache and fever to full blown flu symptoms that included vomitting and diarrhea. Here is a list of symptoms we experienced:

fever
chills
body aches
respiratory congestion and cough
sore throat
headache
vomitting
diarrhea
sinus congestion and runny nose
and pains in the back and legs

Hope this helps!

Direct transmission of a swine flu virus from pigs to humans is occasionally possible (called zoonotic swine flu). In all, 50 cases are known to have occurred since the first report in medical literature in 1958, which have resulted in a total of six deaths.73 Of these six people, one was pregnant, one had leukemia, one had Hodgkin disease and two were known to be previously healthy.73 Despite these apparently low numbers of infections, the true rate of infection may be higher, since most cases only cause a very mild disease, and will probably never be reported or diagnosed.73

In this video, Dr. Joe Bresee, with CDC's Influenza Division, describes the symptoms of swine flu and warning signs to look for that indicate the need for urgent medical attention.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in humans the symptoms of the 2009 "swine flu" H1N1 virus are similar to those of influenza and of influenza-like illness in general. Symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. The 2009 outbreak has shown an increased percentage of patients reporting diarrhea and vomiting.74 The 2009 H1N1 virus is not zoonotic swine flu, as it is not transmitted from pigs to humans, but from person to person.

Because these symptoms are not specific to swine flu, a differential diagnosis of probable swine flu requires not only symptoms but also a high likelihood of swine flu due to the person's recent history. For example, during the 2009 swine flu outbreak in the United States, CDC advised physicians to "consider swine influenza infection in the differential diagnosis of patients with acute febrile respiratory illness who have either been in contact with persons with confirmed swine flu, or who were in one of the five U.S. states that have reported swine flu cases or in Mexico during the 7 days preceding their illness onset."75 A diagnosis of confirmed swine flu requires laboratory testing of a respiratory sample (a simple nose and throat swab).75

The most common cause of death is respiratory failure. Other causes of death are pneumonia (leading to sepsis)76, high fever (leading to neurological problems), dehydration (from excessive vomiting and diarrhea) and electrolyte imbalance. Fatalities are more likely in young children and the elderly

Symptoms of H1N1 swine flu are like regular flu symptoms and include fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue. Many people with swine flu have had diarrhea and vomiting. Nearly everyone with flu has at least two of these symptoms. But these symptoms can also be caused by many other conditions. That means that you and your doctor can't know, just based on your symptoms, if you've got swine flu. Health care professionals may offer a rapid flu test, although a negative result doesn't mean you don't have the flu. The accuracy of the test depends on the quality of the manufacturer’s test, the sample collection method, and how much viral sample a person is shedding at the time of testing.

Like seasonal flu, pandemic swine flu can cause neurologic symptoms in children. These events are rare, but, as cases associated with seasonal flu have shown, they can be very severe and often fatal. Symptoms include seizures or changes in mental status (confusion or sudden cognitive or behavioral changes). It's not clear why these symptoms occur, although they may be caused by Reye's syndrome. Reye's syndrome usually occurs in children with a viral illness who have taken aspirin -- something that should always be avoided.

Only lab tests can definitively show whether you've got swine flu. State health departments can do these tests. But given the large volume of samples coming in to state labs, these tests are being reserved for patients with severe flu symptoms. Currently, doctors are reserving antiviral drugs for people with or at risk of severe influenza.

Same as the regular flu. Interesting yes, but different antibodies to cure it. They'd of included it for the regular vac, but it was too late. I'm sure it will be rolled up in the next vaccination shots.

Not entirely true. Swine flu can also include intestinal symptoms, which regular flu does not. ;)

It will have almost all the symptoms of common flu, like fever, runny nose, sore throat,chills body ache and fatigue. some people will have nausea and diarrhea., which are not usual symptoms of regular flu.
The symptoms will develop 2-3 days after the exposure to the virus. It will last for about a week and will still have the symptoms after the flu is over.

Usually sudden onset and extreme fatigue are the most common symptoms. One day you are fine the next day you feel lousy "Run over by a bus "type feeling. Also in the beginning scratchy throat is also common. Fever and/or chills, sometimes sweats are also common. Unexplained aches are also common, "my bones ache "is a common phase I hear.

Nauseousness, queasy stomach, and sometimes loose stools can happen. Some people also get a frontal headache. I've rarely seen anyone with all of these symptoms, but sudden onset and fatigue are almost universal. To use clinical symptoms to distinguish between "regular" flu and the swine flu is impossible.

Fatigue is usually exacerbated by activity, and people feel that the flu is coming back after brief periods of feeling better.
