Hi @mrtwitter!

The signs and symptoms of ischemic heart disease or IHD are:
*chest pain behind the breastbone which is more on the left. This can sometimes feel like tightness of the chest, heavy pressure, squeezing or crushing pain which can be felt up to the neck, jaw, back, left shoulder or left arm.
*feeling of hotheadedness and dizziness
*heartburn and feeling of indigestion

This heart conditions can be diagnosed by the doctor based on the characteristic complaint of the patient as chest discomfort or chest pain that happens when a person exert some effort and relieved when he is resting. If the doctor suspects that it is ischemic heart he will be able to confirm this by observing reversible ischemic changes on ECG by giving the patient a test dose of sublingual nitrogylerine which can relieve the pain in 1-3 minutes.
Other test can also help determine the extent of the ischemia. These diagnostic test can include electrocardiogram, echocardiogram, exercise-tolerance test, thallium stress test, blood studies to measure total fat, cholesterol and lipoproteins, X-rays of the chest and coronary angiogram.

Yes, ischemic heart disease are treatable
Treatments consists of :
1. Lifestyle modifications - the patient is asked to stop smoking if he is a smoker
2. Diet modifications like low fat, low cholesterol diet, exercise and cholesterol lowering medications
3. Medications to lower blood pressure
4. Stress reduction
5. Maintain an ideal weight
6. Surgery consists of :
*Balloon angioplasty - this is done to correct obstruction in the arteries especially those that supply blood to the heart and brain
*For severe cases, Coronary artery bypass graft or CABG is done
*For advance stages or end-stage disease a heart transplant can be done in rare cases

IHD can result due to micro vascular disease and produces different symptoms from coronary artery disease. The most common symptoms are pressing, squeezing, extreme pain, which may appear in chest, upper arm, upper back, shoulders, nausea, etc. Procedures like electrocardiography, echocardiography and others may be used for diagnosis. Surgery or angioplasty or lifestyle changes may be recommended for treatment. It is best to manage the symptoms in advance which make you vulnerable to these. Refer for ample more information provided by the cardiovascular center of Brigham and Women’s Hospital at their website.
