The main differences between the different models in the MacBook family are mainly the specifications of each individual machine and the target audience for each machine. To be specific, the MacBook Air is targeted towards the traveler who requires a lightweight, ultra-portable computer because they are constantly on the go. However, because the MacBook Air is so light, many standard features that usually come with a MacBook is not included in the computer, such as a DVD drive. However, the one difference about the MacBook Air is that a solid-state drive is standard on a MacBook Air, whilst it is an option on the other MacBooks.
The MacBook is considered the budget machine for consumers. Priced at $999, it is for the student or the consumer who only requires a computer for simple, basic tasks such as surfing the web, or creating basic office documents.
The MacBook Pro line is considered the performance line of MacBooks. As such, the machines have higher-performance processors, video and graphics cards, as well as the inclusion of a memory card reader, on top of the standard peripherals such as USB ports and DVD drive.
