History:

Chiapas: The ethnic groups who live here speak languages dirived from maya language tree.Basically agriculturists they were also famous for handicrafts. The Chiapas has four ruin sites that have become popular.
They are palenque, bonampak, yaxchilan and tonina

Palenque:
:is archaeological site takes its name from Santo Domingo de Palenque, a town probably founded in the seventeenth century. As early as the end of the century, the site's mounds were identified as vestiges of a once great metropolis. What makes Palenque a major community in the Mayan world is its evolved architecture and vast trade networks which linked it not only with the Mayan sphere, but with more distant Meso-American domains as well.

Bonampak:
---------------
Bonampak is located in the Lacandon Forest of the Chiapas and in the Lacanha River Valley. This site occupies 1,000 acres. The main buildings were built along the top of a chain of hills that runs through the middle of the valley from the Cojolita Range to the side of the river. However, only the Grand Plaza cluster has been explored and is open to the public. This plaza is at the south end of Bonampak, where you can see the famous building with wall paintings.

Yaxchilan:

Known for its numerous exceptionally fine engraved monuments, this site lies half hidden in the thick Jungle overgrown next to the Usumacinta River.

Tonona:

The center of Tonina is built on the side of a large hill in seven terraces producing the overall effect of a stepped pyramid. Numerous chambers and passageways exist and there are several buildings located in front of the main complex which may have been used in conjunction with structures on the main buildings.

Tobasco:Tabasco offers a wide range of attractions and outdoor recreational activities. The state’s impressive Olmec and Mayan archaeological zones are ideal to explore and include La Venta, Comalcalco and Pomona, and Tabasco is also known for its countless waterfalls, caverns, swamps, stunning beaches, rivers and marshes. Folkloric villages such as Tapijualpa, Villa Luz and Jalpa are also popular attractions, characterized by their ambiance, still very reminiscent of the Olmec cultural past.

Mexico is best known for its archaeological resources. This area is full of these archeological sites.
Chiapas is best known for the settlement of the Mayan people. The ruins of Monte Albán, Juego de Pelota, El Palacio, and El Adoratorio are some great sites to see in the city of Oaxaca. Yagul, Seis Patios, and Mitla are other famous sites which are just a few kilometers away from the city Oaxaca.
Like these two cities, Tabasco is also rich with some must see archaeological sites.
