What are the side effects of Avelox?
This medication is giving me horrible heartburn, but it's not one of the side effects listed in their guide.
To make matters worse, the guide says to not take any antacids since it will interfere with the antibiotic.
I've adjusted my diet to eating the most bland food... nothing!
Please help!
*Note: both Doctor and Pharmacist are shaking their heads!

In addition, you should also consider possible drug interactions. For example, according to http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/drug-information/DR602775 if you take Xenazine there may be serious side effects if you also take other drugs including Avelox:
- quote -
Make sure your doctor knows if you are using chlorpromazine (Thorazine®), thioridazine (Mellaril®), ziprasidone (Geodon®), moxifloxacin (Avelox®), quinidine, procainamide (Pronestyl®), amiodarone (Cordarone®), or sotalol (Betapase®). Using any of these medicines together with tetrabenazine may cause serious side effects.

M$Avelox is an antibiotic with so many side effects, as can be seen from the answer voted as Best.
Yes all antibiotic absorption is affected by such products as antacids due to the calcium content of them mostly.
You should also know that this drug has interactions with vitamins and mineral supplements, antacids, and other calcium and magnesium preparations, as well.
It is not that you can’t take them, but you should not take an antacid within three hours of taking the antibiotic, so the antibiotic can be absorbed into your system.
What they don’t tell you in addition is the following:
Specific to the side effect of diarrhea is that more than just diarrhea, this drug (and many drugs like it) also have the effect of killing off the natural flora of your digestive system, which also might induce an overgrowth of the bacterium Clostridium difficile, which causes a disease known as pseudomembranous colitis. There is some evidence that taking brewer’s yeast can help in this situation.
In any case it is advisable to take Probiotic supplements, such as can be found in probiotic milk products, yogurt, etc. Look for products with one of the probiotic saccharomyces organisms in it. This will help to replace the natural flora of your digestive system. Remember you can’t take these within three hours of taking the antibiotic as they will block absorption of the antibiotic.
There is a natural product called Septilin that you may want to consider looking into for future consideration.

Sorry you're suffering, but at least the heartburn is in the list titled "Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention."
I guess I'll tough it out since I only have 3 days left to go. This is my second round of antibiotics for this frickin' ear infection and I'd hate to have to go back in for more nasty drugs and pay for another office visit since I don't have health insurance right now.
(grumble, piss, moan) Thanks @opher
