The basic rules of customer service are based on common principles and common sense above all. One basic principle is to listen to the customers. Few things are more frustrating than a customer telling someone on the other side of the counter what they want or what their problem is and then discovering that the person working at that place has not been paying attention and needs to have all explained again. From a customer's point of view that is quite exasperating. Thus a basic rule is to let the customer talk, express their point of view and even deliver a complaint and show that they are well attended.
