That being said, I have my real name and cell phone number all over the net and I've never had a problem. If you are famous then the risks are reduced because you are probably already being harassed by the media.
I think one of the advantages at least today and in the future is that employers often look you up online and assuming you don't embarrass yourself online it provides another way for them to learn more about you.

A quick follow-up: how likely is it that employers will find out a user name and look that up as well? How deep will they look?
PS: this makes me sound like I have something to hide, but I'm really just curious about how easily things can be misinterpreted on the internet.
I don't think they will do it so much in the hiring stage, but possibly afterwards just to get a better feeling for what type of person you are.
I think I remember reading some news articles about employers checking this stuff online and I know that I would be searching if I was in a hiring position.
