There’s no specific way to become a gymnastics teacher. The requirements for being a gymnastics teacher depends on what sort of teacher you want to be and where you would like to teach. Being a gymnastics teacher at a school would probably require an education degree or a degree in kinesiology, but that’s if you’d like to be a traditional gym teacher. If you’d like to actually teach gymnastics at a gym, you’ll need to have prior experience with gymnastics. This could be traditional gymnastics, like artistic or rhythmic gymnastics, or even non-traditional like competition cheerleading. Either way, you’ll need to be very familiar with what you’ll be teaching. Some gyms will be satisfied with your experience, while others will want you to have prior teaching experience. You could get this by assisting a gymnastics teacher, working at cheerleading or tumbling camps, etc. Still, other gyms will want you to have medical training, like CPR certification and first aid training. Some gyms will also want you to be certified with USAG, the United States of America Gymnastics organization. You can visit USAG at http://www.usa-gymnastics.org. If you plan to work with children, you’ll most likely be required to pass a background check.
Good luck!
