Well, the obvious con is money. But beyond that, hiring an attorney can't hurt. In the pro area, they have a knowledge of the law that can help direct you in the right direction, they can tell you how to plead according to what will be most beneficial for you, and they can look into the specifics of what went down during the arrest. Here's a law article that talks about the ways in which an attorney can help: http://www.tandvlaw.com/articles/how-a-dui-attorney-can-help-you/ It's never a bad idea to hire one, especially as duis become a more and more serious offense, but finances can be an issue in it.

Hi @servicos!

If one is arrested for DUI, this can be a scary experience and this is just the start of a long process that consists of court dates and substantial dates and fees. Hiring a DUI lawyer can be helpful but it does cost a lot.

These are the pros of hiring one:
*the lawyer will guide you through the process
* you will be sure that your rights are being protected, and you will be sure that you are aware of all your options and the repercussions
*having legal representation will ensure that you get the fairest trial and suffer few legal consequences
*having a lawyer will provide you with the big chance of having your charges dropped or significantly lowered
*lawyer can make suggestions that will help you in negotiating your sentence

The cons of getting one:
*lawyers are expensive, on average, a lawyer that represent a client that a client charged with DUI will usually charge straight up fee of at least $2,500.
