M$And, the generally significant among the benefits of Lasik surgery include getting back to good quality eyesight, that also at a very rapid speed. Furthermore, Lasik eye surgery can be a fortunate thing for those individuals, who are sensitive to contacts. Retrieval is also very fast in Lasik surgery, as related to other vision rectification surgeries.
At the same time, this surgery is very costly, as well. And, there are some complications, such as red patches on the cornea, soreness, arid eyes, unclear vision, etc., which can take place after Lasik surgery.
Consequently, any person thinking about undergoing Lasik surgery should talk about it cautiously with his/her family doctor or optician first of all.

M$The benefits should last forever.
Lasik surgery changes the shape of your eye to refocus and thus correct for near-sighted, far sighted and astigmatisms. Because your eye is reshaped you lose some of your peripheral vision. Also some people, including myself, have what's called "haloing" in their night vision. Which means when I drive at night, I see sort of a vague halo of light around streetlights etc.
My own vision was so poor before the surgery that I couldn't see the big "E" on an eye chart without my glasses, and my night vision was already compromised. After the surgery I am 20/20 in broad daylight and slightly near sighted at night. I wear glasses to drive after dark or to watch movies - so it's not like I totally threw them away.
For a person who is only slightly correcting I would say, stick with contact lenses until the price of lasik comes down. For a person as bad off as I was - it's a real boon
