There was a major algae bloom and the lake is polluted with cyanobacteria in May 2007. The Chinese government closed and given notices to all 1,300 factories that are found around the lake. The province of Jiangsi is planning to clean up the lake. The State Council led by Wen Jiabao set a target to clean Lake Tai by 2012.
