The construction of The Forbidden City was started in 1406 (or 1407 according to some sources) and it took 14 years for it to complete in 1420. The city consisted of the Chinese imperial palace which was under rule from the Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty, 980 buildings and 8707 bays of rooms. It had been a home of emperors and their families for about 500 years and is located in the exact middle of Beijing, China. It is said to be home to around 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties.
The Forbidden City was declared a world heritage site in 1987 and is listed as the largest collection of ancient wooden structures in the world by UNESCO. The city is now open to tourists who marvel the wonders of Chinese architecture. The Imperial Palace has been converted into Palace Museum and is open to be visitors from all over the China and world.
