What are the negative effects of pornography in marriage?

I have a neighbor, who moved in few months ago. She works in a good firm and her husband is a doctor. They seem very much in love, anytime they are seen together. One evening I met her in the elevator and we got talking and became acquainted. But two days ago, she asked me if I had any adult film she could watch with her husband, and explained to me that when they watch pornography, they feel bonded. I still don’t understand, but do you think this habit can have a negative effect on a marriage?

Since the start of internet, pornography industry has profited from an unprecedented proximity to home, work and school environments. Married couples families, individuals of all ages are being affected by pornography in new and devastating ways.

Leading experts in the field of sexual addictions said that this is a hidden public health hazard exploding in part because very few are recognizing it as such or taking it seriously
These are the negative effects of pornography in marriage:

1. There will be an increase in marital distress and risk of separation and divorce
2. Less intimacy between the couple as well as decrease in sexual satisfaction
3. It can lead to an increased appetite fro more graphic types of pornography and sexual activity associated with abusive, illegal or unsafe practices,
4. There will be a devaluation of monogamy, marriage and child rearing,
5. It can lead to an increase number of people struggling with compulsive and addictive sexual behavior.

Here are some science-based facts on the effects pornography can have on long-term relationships;

> Pornography usage increases marital infidelity 300%. (Steve Stack at Wayne State University)

> Pornography use undermines marital relations and distresses wives. ("Romantic Partners' Use of Pornography: Its Significance for Women," Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy - 2003)

> Husbands report loving their spouses less after long periods of looking at (and desiring) women depicted in pornography. ("Pornography’s
Impact on Sexual Satisfaction," Journal of Applied Social Psychology - 1988)

> Viewers of pornography assign increased importance to sexual relations without emotional involvement. Consequently, wives experience decreased intimacy from their husbands. ("The Significance of Heavy Pornography Involvement for Romantic Partners: Research and Clinical Implications," Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy - 2002)

> Extensive viewing of pornographic material produces many unfavorable sociological effects, including a decreased respect for long-term, monogamous relationships, and an attenuated desire for procreation. ("Effects of Prolonged Consumption of Pornography", Report of the Surgeon General's Workshop on Pornography and Public Health by Zillmann, Dolf - 1986)

However, I don't need science-based evidence of pornography can ruin a marriage as my ex was addicted to this kind of smut for years without me having the slightest clue. In fact, if it wasn't for the fact I came home early one day from work and found him gratifying himself in front of the computer, I would still be in the dark about his addiction. After finding out what he was up to, I resorted to "spying on him" via an online service (http://FindHisPorn.com) which scanned his hard drive and showed how you was not keeping his promise to me that he would stop visiting porn sites. Once I realized that he was addicted to this smut, it took about nine months but I eventually realize I could never live with this and since my ex had no intention of getting help for addiction, I had to file for divorce.
