* What are the meanings of N.V and B.V behind names of Netherlands' companies ?
I saw behind some Netherlands’ companies, there are N.V or B.V.
For examples:
ABN AMRO Bank N.V. ; RFS Holdings B.V.
What do N.V and B.V stand for ?
Thanks.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Hi Wy!
I looked and found the answer at the Corporate Information website.
For the country of Netherlands, BV stands for Besloten Vennootschap. It just means a Limited Liability Company. An LLC for short.
The NV stands for Naamloze Vennootschap. This one says "In the Netherlands Antilles, many foreign companies establish subsidiaries to shelter taxes". It didn't really elaborate on it more than that.
Here is the great link that gave me the information. It also has business abbreviations for other countries in other languages.

It seems that there are different meanings of B.V. and C.V. in Netherlands and Netherlands Antilles.
Interesting..
B.V.
Netherlands:
Besloten Vennootschap. Limited liability company. Capital of at least 40,000 NLG is required to start at BV.
Netherlands Antilles:
Besloten Vennootschap. Limited liability company. Many companies incorporated in the Netherlands Antilles are merely shells created for tax purposes.
C.V.
Netherlands :
Naamloze Vennootschap. All publicly traded Dutch companies are NV's, but not all NV's are publicly traded. Dutch NV's require 100,000 NLG share capital or more.
Netherlands Antilles:
Naamloze Vennootschap. In the Netherlands Antilles, many foreign companies establish subsidiaries to shelter taxes.
