What are the long term effects of using Adderall?
Adderall is a popular stimulant treatment forr ADHD and it is also used illicitly as a drug because it has energy inducing effects. But just like any other drug this could have some side effects too especially if used for longer period of time. I want to know what are the long term effect of using this drug. Does it keep working or a person who has ADHD will develop tolerance with it?

Like many addicting drugs and medications, adderall can result in some pretty serious side effects, especially if misused.. which it commonly is. Adhd medications, like many stimulants, release dopamine. This dopamine can calm people who are over stimulated. Those who are not, it causes an opposite reaction, thus speeding them up.
Long term effects when the medication is abused can result in:
Paranoia
Insomnia
Hostility
Anorexia
This can also cause people to pick themselves or have the feeling of their skin crawling.
Other researches indicate that a medicine in the family of amphetamines can result in the destruction of dopaminergic terminals in the brain, making it less effective. It can also cause defects in the hippocampus which is what works basic functions like activity level, feeding and drinking. With intended us in abusers, it can cause early dementia and schizophrenia.
The problem with long term use problems is more with the abusers who do not have problems. Adderall is over prescribed for people who do not actually have ADHD problems. I have read several forums on this matter and most seem to agree that the long term use problems are more for people who do not actually have ADHD. However, there are some that disagree and say that it does have physiological long term effects. Personally I think that more studies is needed on this medication.
