Hello @tinews! Thermodynamics is the study of the effects of work, heat and energy on a system. This was discovered and studied first in 1800s. It was popular and was valued because of the use of steam engines. Thermodynamics is concerned only with large scale observations.
There are four laws of thermodynamics. First is the zeroth law that states that if two systems are in thermal equilibrium with a third system, then they are in thermal equilibrium with each other. This means that if two systems have the same temperature as the third system, then all three are the same temperatures.
First law of thermodynamics states that the total energy of a system is constant even if it is converted from one form to another. Example of this is kinetic energy which is the energy that an object have when it moves. It is converted to heat which means that basically work and heat are equivalent.
Second law is one of the most basic laws in science. It states that heat cannot flow to a system at a higher temperature from a system at a lower temperature. If this kind of action must occur, work must be done.
Third law of thermodynamics states that the change in entropy of a system when it converts from one form to another gets close to zero like the temperature that nears zero on the Kelvin scale. Entopy is the ability of a system's energy to do work.
