What are the healthiest contact lenses to wear?

I've been told by some of my friends that their eyes get dry and irritated when they wear contact lenses all day long. They find that, after a day in the office or outside then into the evening, wearing contacts their eyes can feel uncomfortable and vision is unclear. I wear contact sometimes and find that my eyes can get very dry after keeping them in for even just a few hours.

Is this potentially damaging to the eyes? Is it better to wear eye glasses? If you choose to wear contact lenses, based on medical findings, what are the safest and healthiest contacts to wear? What do doctors recommend to keep eyes their healthiest if you are a contact lens wearer?

When choosing contact lenses, it is important to let your optometrist assist you in determining which particular lenses may be the best option for your individual eyes and any vision problems or conditions you may have. Not all contact lenses are obviously optimal for use by just anybody. Each person’s eyes are different (shape, size, vision, etc) and so contact lenses should always be prescribed and fitted by a professional. You should never simply order contacts from an online website (for fashion purposes or to select your own colors or brands) since any lens that is not properly fitted to your precise eyeball can severely damage not only your cornea but also impact your vision (improper reflection of images upon the retina). Lenses have come a long way and compensate for vision problems such near and far sightedness as well as astigmatism, and there are now a number of great options available for contact lens wearers. However, to find the one best for your eyes, it is imperative that you consult with your eye doctor. He/she can help you make the right choice by selecting from options that include daily disposable versus extended wear lenses, hard or soft lenses, color options, bifocal lenses, and many others.

Marketers may tell you that the healthiest types of lenses are disposable contact lenses as well as lenses that allow your eyes to "breathe". That said, I'm not sure that the type of contact lense you select is really the primary factor in determining how healthy your eyes are going to be and how many eye infections you're going to have.

In my opinion, keeping your lenses clean and changing them frequently is much more important than the exact type or brand. If you have great lenses but never change them, your eyes are always going to have more dirt and bacteria to deal with.

Personally, I am not convinced to wearing contact lenses though I find it better than wearing eyeglasses on. It is because I always have the doubts that foreign materials such as this would really cause damage to our body or its parts in the long run. But, since this has been medically used now, you can get the Silicon hydrogels. And when looking for the best contact lenses, you should consider its Dk/t because the higher the number the more oxygen goes through.

So choose from these:
Acuvue Advance - 88
Bausch and Lomb PureVision - 105
Ciba O2 Optix - 138
Acuvue Oasys - 148
Cooper Biofinity - 160
Ciba Focus Night and Day - 175
And as I've told, it is a must that you should take out your lenses at night in order to cut your chances of developing a sight-threatening corneal ulcer by a factor of 15. Most importantly, take your optometrist's advice.

First of all, your optician is the person who will tell you what is the best type of contact lense for your own eyes. Some people can wear hard lenses, and there are also soft lenses. But this all depends which is the best for your eye type. I wore contacts for many years, (hard) and didn't have any problem's until I started getting allergies in the spring. Then as my eyes were always itchy, I was forever having to remove the lenses, as it was very irritating, and I was getting infections. I was advised to go back to glasses, which I did. Yes, you can get dry eyes from contacts, but you have a solution to use, and when they get dry, you have to remove them, and put on the solution, then put the lenses back in. So it can be annoying having to do that several times a day! The most important thing with contacts is hygene. You must always keep them clean, soaking in the solution is important, unless you use those disposable ones, I never used them, so don't know the regime. They are great, contacts., but they require a lot of care, as the eyes are so important to us, and they are delicate!

For contact lenses the daily disposable are believed by many to be the healthiest option. You wear them once and throw them away so you have a new clean lens every day.

I wear glasses most days and keep a supply of daily disposable lenses for days where I want to wear contacts.
