What are the health benefits of drinking Yerba Mate?
- What types of 'caffine' does Mate contain?
- Does it make you crash?
- Is it bad for you in any way?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

M$* Mate contains the same chemical, caffeine, which is in green tea. However, there are other chemicals in mate, and in tea, and these chemicals and their relative concentrations differ, creating a somewhat different effect on the mind and body when you drink it.
* I've heard different things. Personally, I find that neither green tea nor mate makes me crash...I also find though that mate provides less of a boost to concentration and is more relaxing, relative to green tea. Coffee, by contrast, makes me crash, and also easily makes me jittery if I drink it too strong. I think this is probably simply because of the fact that coffee has the most caffeine.
* Is Mate bad for you in any way? Yes...there is some evidence that heavy Mate use can cause a variety of problems. This is true of tea though too...too much of anything can be bad for you. Like most natural drinks, Mate is probably healthy in small or moderate amounts and unhealthy in excess.
I actually have researched this topic and provided some sources...if you want more explanation, you can find a good section on the health effects, positive and negative, of Yerba mate, on this article I maintain:

I hope this helps!
