What are the fonts of the New York Times and Wall Street Journal logos? Download links (for Mac) appreciated.

Tip for best answer: M$2.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

1. Wall Street Journal:

Font used: Escrow

More details on the font Escrow.

2. New York Times:
The logo is designed by Edward Benguiat. It may not have a font name.
http://www.adcglobal.org/archive/hof/2000/?id=202
Excerpt:
“He is also known for his designs or redesigns of the logotypes for Esquire, The New York Times, McCall’s, Reader’s Digest, Photography, Look, Sports Illustrated, The Star Ledger, The San Diego Tribune, Garamond AT&T, A&E, Estee Lauder, U&lc...the list goes on and on….”

An article interviewing Benguiat:

He drew the logo by hand.
Here is another article.

These are challenging fonts to identify. Quite possible each newspaper has their own custom font that is a play off an existing one.

The closest I could get for Wall Street Journal from Identifont is Century Bold FB Condensed:

For the New York Times Linotext, Wedding and Marriage fonts are close:

http://www.identifont.com/show?QL:

There are links on the page to purchase the fonts from their respective pages.

Image scans to WhatTheFont at myfonts.com produced similar results.
