What are the effects of a poisonous butterfly or caterpillar sting?

I never knew that poisonous butterflies existed, much less caterpillars, until this past weekend when my friend Chelsea told me about them. She said that there were some in her area, an area I'm about to move to. I'm a little nervous, just because I'm not educated on the matter. I would like to know what happens when you get bit by one of these creatures? Are there other butterflies besides the Monarch that are poisonous? Can they sting or just bite? What sort of medical attention should I look for if this happens to me?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Monarch butterflies are only poisonous to animals that eat them.
